Another Crash Love Review

The Daily Collegian, a newspaper run by students at Penn State, has released a review of Crash Love. The paper states:

"Havok's lyrical abilities also bog down the band from time to time. He's not one to shy away from the trite or cliché -- "Oh my dear, please dry your eyes," "I feel nothing at all." He also has a tendency to write lyrics that are altogether meaningless -- "The broken radio was playing suicide," "I'd tear out my eyes for you, my dear/ to see everything you do."

Another detracting point with this album is how nearly every song, after developing pretty interesting music during the verses, always pops into a power chord-backed chorus."

  2. Yeah it does. Worst, most incapable reviewer ever. AND HOW DARE THEY INSULT DAVEY'S BRILLIANT WORK LIKE THAT!!! I will get my revenge (not). They don't even know the theme of the album for gods sake.

  3. The only thing I REMOTELY agree with is the choruses...I mean the verses and music sound really like rock...edgy with some good riffs. Then when the choruses come around, it goes all pop punk on us! The song I notice this the most is on Cold Hands. Awesome, dark verse...great guitaring. Then, BOOM, chorus! Sounds like it came from a totally different song! All upbeat and chipper. I don't feel it fits the mood of the verses. The moods on the choruses from the b sides sound to me like they fit the verses better. Maybe the record label said you need to target the pre teens a little more so pep up the choruses a bit.

  4. I'll admit, at first I was pretty shocked at where some of the choruses went (namely Veronica Sawyer Smokes and Darling) but I'm very happy to admit that they have grown on me pretty heavily. I've never been one to tie AFI to records they've made 6 to 10 years prior so I'm glad they're doing something different, even if it is more uplifting and, well, catchy. The chorus on Cold Hands, in particular, is probably one of my favorites on the album. It gives the song a really great dynamic - riff heavy intense verses bouncing into a driving energetic uplifting chorus.
