Help Donate To 924 Gilman

924 Gilman, where AFI played back in the day, are looking for donations to help with the increased rent they are facing which may put them out of buisness. The buildings website says:

"On July 1, 2010 our rent will increase to nearly $7000.00 a month (as of now it’s approximately $4300.00), jeopardizing the future of 924 Gilman. The club’s rent has been increasing every year for the last twenty three years, and up until now we’ve been able to make the adjustments needed to compensate for those increases, but what we are facing now is the equivalent of having twenty years of rent increases condensed into one, and once it goes into effect the clock will begin to tick away as we struggle to generate the extra $31,000.00 a year needed to cover this massive rent hike.

Please donate and give whatever you can to help 924 Gilman face this latest challenge to our existence. If you make a donation of $25.00 or more, then we will send you a Gilman t-shirt or tote bag as a token of our appreciation. Please add special instructions when you make a donation indicating your t-shirt size."

You can donate by visiting http://www.924gilman.org/blog/

Ultimate Guitar Posts Glasgow, UK Review

Ultimate Guitar has posted a review of AFI's recent UK show in Glasgow. In the review, the website says:

"Jade Puget, perhaps the most underrated guitarist in modern music, was certainly on form. Using his Gibson LP he pulls off complicated rhythms and chord patterns with ease. His ability to play hardcore punk at pace has never left him, and his guitar tone is to die for; not many guitarists in AFI’s genre pool manage to pull off such a varied number of tones throughout a show, but Jade does: he’s on top of his game whether it be during glisteningly warm Acoustic numbers (On the Arrow) or while incorporating legato and tapping during a would-be shred solo (Dancing Through Sunday)."

View interview below.

There was a quick question about the new Blaqk Audio record Bright Black Heaven. Jade stated" its pretty much done" and "it will be out soon."

Afireinside.net Reverted Back To Winter 2009 Version

AFI's official site has been reverted back to the website's theme in Winter 2009 with the announcement of Edgefest in Toronto. The other pages on the site such as events still work, however. We are suspecting a server error and we will keep you updated on this as more information arises.

Update: Management has told us that an error during server upgrades caused the issue, which has now been fixed.

Front This Scene Reviews Glasgow Show

Front This Scene, a UK-based webzine, has posted a review of AFI's Glasgow show on their Myspace. They praise Davey, saying:

"Front man Davey Havok appears in a flurry of black and gold, leaping on to the centre platform that lights up at his touch. The band launch straight into “Medicate”, the lead single from their fantastic 2009 effort Crash Love. The reaction is instantaneous. The crowd sing back every word at incredible volume, but Davey’s in fine form, and his vocals soar effortlessly over the noise."

Included in the article are photographs from our good friend Jodi Cunningham, whose photographs from the Birmingham show are up in our photo gallery on AFI Ignite. As a side note, more photographs from her will be uploaded to the gallery tonight.

Win ZuBoutqiue Shoes From PETA2

PETA2 and ZuBoutique, Davey's clothing line, have teamed up to give away a pair of Zu Shoes. PETA is an avid supporter of anything vegan and as we all know, Davey is a vegan. To enter, go here and fill out the form. You have until May 17th to do so with the winner being notified on the 19th.

Here's the second episode in our exclusive Answer That and Stay Fashionable Interview Series with all four members of AFI. In part 2 of Jason's 3-part interview with Adam, he discusses which job in AFI he would want apart from drums, the drumming dynamics between old and new songs, recording drums in the studio, and The View From Here.

"Battled" Song Tournament Over, This Time Imperfect Reigns Supreme

Our "Battled" tournament has officially come to an end after weeks of match-ups to determine the best AFI song. The championship round began yesterday with a heated battle between "This Time Imperfect" and "...But Home Is Nowhere." Beautiful Thieves 7'' Order Messups, Damaged Vinyl Will Make Record Even Rarer Than 500 Copies

If you ordered your Beautiful Thieves 7'' from Better Leisure, we have some bad news. According to many people who bought the 7'' from them, the site only got 50 copies for preorder rather than the 200 they were supposed to receive. This hasn't been confirmed yet, however.

Other sellers, such as recordstore.co.uk, have sent e-mails to several customers saying that a certain quantity of the records they received were damaged and cannot be shipped. This means that the vinyl is limited to even less than the original 500 copies.

Update 4/16: We're getting numerous comments from readers who have had their orders cancelled from stores such as HMV and Action Records. One reports than a record he received from Better Leisure was very dusty. If you're having problems like these, send us an e-mail so we can put it here.

Once we get more information regarding this issue, we will let you know.

OFFICIAL: Crash Love Will NOT Have 3rd Single

Before the show in London off AFI’s current European tour, Alter The Press sat down with Hunter and conversed over the tour, creating set lists, playing albums in their entirety, Hunter’s various side projects, why there will not be a third single/video, and the upcoming Green Day tour. You can read the interview in its entirety here.
The most important of this interview is actually bad news. There will NOT be a third single for Crash Love, due to a lack of funds.
Hunter: “No, we are not being given the proper funds, unfortunately. I think it’s just an indication of the way things have gone in the business. TV doesn’t really play videos, so there are very few outlets for videos, and it makes sense not to waste hundreds and thousands on dollars on a video if it’s just going to be on the internet. “

AFINewsHQ’s Interview With Ben Grey, Pt. 2

Last week we posted Part 1 of our interview with Scarlet Grey frontman Ben Grey. That part dealt with Scarlet Grey’s history and influences as a band. We admit that posting the entire first half here was not a good decision because it was not AFI related. However, this second part focuses on touring and recording with AFI.
Jason: Davey does guest vocals on “The Sky And I” and Jade does programming on the title track. How did you approach them about doing this and how much of a creative role did they take?
Ben: I just sort of asked them; It wasn’t like a formal proposal or anything. For [The Sky & I], I had written a vocal part that I thought would really suit Davey’s vocals and the song. Since Keith had been engineering some of the new Blaqk Audio, we just pulled up the track and Dave sang on it. I’m really thrilled with how it all came together.
With Jade it was a little different We had sent him the basic tracks of Fancy Blood while he was in Japan and gave him complete freedom to do whatever he wanted. A few days later he sent us back some unbelievable music that really took the song to another place. I can’t imagine the song without it now. Davey and Jade are just incredible talents and I feel so lucky that they wanted to be a part of our little record.
Jason: How was it touring with AFI this past month? If you had to pick one moment on this tour with AFI that has been the most memorable, what would it be?
Ben: I think the thing people don’t really know about AFI is how funny everybody is. So much classic material… Jade had an auto-tune app for his iPhone which was the source of hours of entertainment and possible future material. (kidding) But for me the most memorable moment was singing “Love Like Winter” with AFI in New Orleans. It was such an honor to be asked to do it in the first place and then it was so relieving that it went over okay haha. Originally it was supposed to be “End Transmission” because I was familiar with it from the “Crash Love” sessions, but they switched up on me that day and it was so nerve-racking! But it was unbelievably fun and I’m really glad the DF was into it.
Jason: What is your favorite AFI song or album?
Ben: I think my favorite song is The Missing Frame. The bridge of that song is really powerful. But I think the unsung hero of AOD is “Of Greeting and Goodbyes.” That song never really gets a lot of praise but I loved it the most! I made quite a leap from DU to AOD, but I wanted to make it known how into that track I was.

DailyDose.co.uk Interviews Jade

The Daily Dose, a UK music site, has posted an interview with Jade about international touring. Click here to read the interview. On Scotland:

“I think that was the first place I ever toured in Europe…we toured with The Offspring and that was the first stop of the tour, so that was my first experience of overseas ever. So yeah, played at the Barrowland many times.”

Click Music interview with Jade

Click Music recently did an interview with Jade. In this interview Jade discusses albums, changes, fans and his straight edge lifestyle. The interview reads:
“Part of it was when I was kid there was a straight edge movement in the 80s which exposed me to it and stoked me and was something that seemed right for me. Obviously that was true, because here I am, y’know, 15-20 years later, still straight edge.

AFI Confirmed For Lollapalooza 2010

The lineup for Lollapalooza 2010 has officially been announced, and as we predicted last Thursday, AFI will be playing, though not as a headliner. The Chicago Tribune has posted the complete lineup here and the list will soon be added to Lollapalooza’s official site. There is no information yet on the specific date and time of AFI’s set.
Lollapalooza is an annual music festival in Chicago started by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Ferrell in 1991. This year’s festival runs from August 6-8, nestled between two AFI+Green Day tour dates.
