AFI Nitro Albums Will Return to iTunes

On April 21, Nitro Records posted a news item on their Web site regarding the recent pulling of their catalog from iTunes. In the message they say:

Due to various changes within the company, our catalog has been temporarily pulled from iTunes. We’re aware that some of you have already noticed this. Rest assured that we have been working hard here at Nitro headquarters on updating everything & getting it all back up there as quickly as possible for everyone.
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the patience & support!

As of today, AFI’s albums recorded with Nitro are not up on iTunes. As soon as they return I will post an update.

Courtney’s "Day In The Life" Video Posted

AFI has posted the “Day In The Life” video for Courtney, the fourth Begin Transmission winner. This video comes one week after Mark’s video. In the video, Courtney and Smith ride around Houston, visiting an art class, Courtney’s sister’s house, and more. In the interview portion of the video, she discusses being “different,” as well as her video submission to the contest. Smith riding in a CVS Pharmacy cart and nearly being smashed into a pole takes the prize. Click here to watch the video.

Update: Also note that only one week has passed since Mark’s video. Previously, there have been two weeks between videos.

Hunter Posts Video Response 7 of 7

Hunter has posted the 7th and final installment in his epic series of video responses to questions asked on his blog. Related to AFI, Hunter confirms that they will tour in Germany, Newcastle (UK), and Canada on the new album.

Other than that, it’s just Hunter being Hunter as he speeds through a lightning round of questions. It can be difficult to keep up at times. Click here to view the video.

Missing Word From Title Narrowed To Three

In a recent Ask AFI question, Davey was asked about three words and whether one of them was the one word missing from our interpretation of IATVTBH, which is the acronym for a song name from Crash Love. Here are the three candidates. Highlight the white lines below to see them. Keep in mind that Raine said he thought it was the last one on the list, but none of the winners are quite sure.

Jade Updates Blog, Talks AFI and Blaqk Audio

Earlier tonight Jade updated his blog with a fairly short message.
So much going on, haven’t had a chance to post.
Putting the final touches on the AFI album.
Writing new Blaqk Audio songs.
Trying to eat good Thai and Mexican food.
Trying to make it to Coachella (I see Moz is the clear winner).
Trying to decide who to take on tour with us.

Any thoughts on any of the above?
This means that AFI is at least finished recording Crash Love and they are also likely in the early stages of planning the new tour. Blaqk Audio will presumably have a follow-up album to CexCells.

Hunter Posts Video Response 6 of 7

On Tuesday night, Hunter gave us the sixth video in his series of responses to questions asked on his blog. Related to AFI he discusses how he feels about hanging out with fans, and the differences between recording and playing live.

Apart from that, it’s just Hunter being Hunter as he examines life or death choices, his most hated class at school, house designs, teaching kittens to tango, and more. Click here to view the video.

Davey Answers Key Questions

In Ask AFI earlier this morning, Davey answered two key questions regarding the new album. The first was about the ever-elusive meaning of IATVTBH. In a previous Ask AFI, he told us that one word of our interpretation was wrong. Now we know that the last word in our guess is not right.

He also answered a question regarding the possibility of the first single from Crash Love being released before AFI’s show at Edgefest on June 20. To that Davey said, “No, I doubt it very much.”

Best AFI Song Ever?

I am excited to introduce a new contest that will span the next several weeks and months. I would like to wittle down AFI’s massive catalogue to one supreme winner amongst fans. In order to do this, I have arranged 128 of AFI’s songs into one massive bracket. There are 32 songs in each of four divisions, named Davey, Adam, Jade, and Hunter.

You will vote to determine which songs advance through polls right here on the blog. I will post 8 polls at a time in the first round, and each poll will stay open for two days. The poll are 1-on-1 style with the song’s ranking following the title in parentheses. 36 days. 127 polls. 1 winner. Which song will it be? Voting begins NOW.

We Got It Wrong

The first title off of the new AFI album is not what we thought it was. We believed that we had translated the acronym IATVHTHB correctly, but now we have learned from Davey through Ask AFI that one word in our interpretation is wrong.

Davey Dashes Hopes Of Summer US Tour

In Davey, tour on April 10, 2009 at 3:49 am

In response to an Ask AFI question posted by “Pat” regarding whether AFI will tour in the United States before the UK dates that have been announced for 2009, Davey has said “I would expect not until after.” Davey also said that no interviews have been conducted yet in anticipation of Crash Love, but that “one can hope!”

Download Center Up and Running

DarkFlame’s AFI Community has gotten an upgrade in the form of the Download Center. This members-only section of the site allows you to download AFI wallpapers, buddy icons, fan projects such as Alli and ixnay’s Complete AFI Set List/Tour Guide and my own Complete AFI Lyrical Anthology, and a spot where you can download 12 AFI live performances for free.

I hope to eventually bring this Download Center up to par with what AFI Series’s Download Spot used to be. I will be adding mountains of content in the coming months, so stay tuned.

AFI’s Nitro Music Taken Off iTunes

All of AFI’s music that was recorded with Nitro Records has been pulled off iTunes as of today. This is most likely because Nitro did not agree to the tiered pricing structure Apple introduced today for its iTunes Store.

Currently, the only AFI albums available on iTunes are Decemberunderground, Sing the Sorrow, I Heard A Voice, Carcinogen Crush (Single), and A Fire Inside EP. That EP was on Adeline Records, therefore it is still on the store.

Possible UK Tour Date

A new AFI tour date rumor has surfaced, and this one is also in the United Kingdom. The show will be in Plymouth at Plymouth Pavilions on October 27, 2009 at 7:30. As of now tickets do not seem to be on sale, but this post will be updated when further information is available. Again, this show has not been officially announced by the band or its PR company.

We are still awaiting official word from the band themselves, but until then, you may highlight the text below to see the title. I am presenting it this way so that those of you who would like to wait can avoid seeing the title.
Respect those who do not yet wish to know the title. Please do not directly state the the title in your comments.

I Am Trying Very Hard To Be Honest

UPDATE: We have learned from Davey in Ask AFI that one word of the title listed here is incorrect.

Hunter Posts Video Response 4 of 7

On Saturday evening, Hunter gave us the fourth video in his series of responses to questions asked on his blog. In this new video, Hunter gives us several more bits of information. He says that AFI has been at their busiest this week, and that all of their attention has been on the record.
In response to the question “Are there any AFI tracks from before Decemberunderground or Sing the Sorrow that may see the light of day at some point?” Hunter says “The only tracks that we recorded during those sessions — or even before that — that have not been released are slated to be released on the EP when that is released, so those songs will get out there eventually.”
Beyond that, it’s just Hunter being Hunter as he talks about his spy attire, vegan burrito traps, how he learned piano, his first kiss, and more. Click here to view the video.

Davey Gives Initials to a "Crash Love" Title

In the Ask AFI section of the message boards, Davey answered a question about lyrics he may wish he hadn’t written. He strayed away from the question toward the end and began comparing his new lyrics to his old. At one point he compared “Three Seasons to Cereal Wars, or IATVHTBH (from Crash Love) to Three Reasons.”

Update: Davey has confirmed that this is the acronym for a song title on Crash Love. He also revealed that this is the song that the Begin Transmission winners sang on.

Raine’s Begin Transmission Video Released

Two weeks after Natacia’s “Day In The Life” video was released, AFI has given us Raine’s equivalent. Raine was the second winner, thus his video is the second one. The video was posted earlier this evening. In this new video, Raine helps Smith take over Hawaii. At the end, he abruptly leaves to go and get Mark in L.A. The song used for this video was “Affliction.”

Hunter Posts Video Response 3 of 7

In Hunter on April 1, 2009 at 11:21 am

Early Wednesday morning, Hunter gave us the third video in his series of video responses to questions asked on his blog. See here and here for the previous two responses.

In this new video, Hunter gives us several bits of information. He says AFI is “really hitting it hard in the studio right now, trying to get our record done.” He also told us that Don’t Change, Jack The Ripper, and On The Arrow were recorded after all of the songs from Decemberunderground were mixed. Beyond that, it’s just Hunter being Hunter as he discusses necessities for island life, vegan menus, and regular horses in fish tanks. Enjoy!
