There is a review of the House Of Blues show in today's issue of the BCHeights. A highlight from the review:
"Sunday's underwhelming turnout illustrates more than anything how a band can alienate old fans by continually redefining itself. Crash Love represents another step in the band's neverending creative evolution. Not only is it considerably warmer than the band's previous two albums Decemberunderground and Sing the Sorrow, but it is also more musically complex. The album evokes nostalgia for the band's punk rock past, which is a difficult task since punk songs are typically short, fast, and simplistic."

"It is also more musically complex. The album evokes nostalgia for the band's punk rock past, which is a difficult task since punk songs are typically short, fast, and simplistic. The songs are a synthesis of the band's earlier work, incorporating some hardcore punk elements of Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, some gothic elements of Black Sails in the Sunset, and some electronic elements of Decemberunderground."Why do so many recent reviewers have no idea what the hell they're talking about?
ReplyDeleteThe reason for that is because of the fact that these are all student newspapers. I'm an editor at my university's newspaper, and I speak with grim sincerity when I say that this guy probably didn't even listen to Crash Love before he wrote this, and probably typed this in about 20 minutes before deadline. These really aren't to be taken too seriously, ha.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to read such clueless articles. They are still the same exact people, who believe the same exact things. The only that changed is the SOUND not the messages or depth of their work.
ReplyDeleteThis reviewer is a musical genious. I couldn't have crystallized my thoughts any better.
