AFI To Play Theaterfabrik in Munich on April 15

AFI will be playing a headlining show at Tonhalle in Munich, Germany on April 15, 2010. This was first announced through a tweet last week from Veronica Sawyer. This show is an addition to the April UK tour. A full schedule for that tour can be found at AFI Tour Central.

Update: Tanja, one of our readers, has informed me that this date is actually another stop on the Give It A Name tour, which AFI is a part of. The venue has also been changed to Theaterfabrik, which is half the size of Tonhalle.

Jade Posts Another Rocksound Blog

Jade posted another blog on Rocksound.com, focusing on Brisbane, a recent stop on the Soundwave Tour in Australia. He wrote:

“We started in Brisbane. The streets have a carnival-like feel, crowded and kinetic. It’s strange, people in the more cosmopolitan southern cities refer to the residents of Brisbane as “bogans”, basicially their version of a redneck, but I’m not getting that vibe at all.”

AFINewsHQ is now an Official AFI Fansite

We are very pleased to announce that AFI News HQ is now an official AFI fansite! A link to our site has been added to a new Links page on AFireInside.net, and further integration with other official AFI sites may be in the future.

The entire staff wants to take this opportunity to thank you readers for the last year. It’s truly been a remarkable journey that has brought much reward to all of us, and we hope the same can be said for you. Each new milestone we reach – 1 million visitors, written and vocal praise from the band, 900 news posts, and now becoming official – reminds us of our mission, which has remained the same from the beginning: to allow fans to keep up with news about AFI.

We’ve expanded greatly along the way, most notably with the creation of the AFI Ignite supersite. But AFI News HQ remains the heart of it all, and we are forever trying to improve our service to the fans. Becoming an official part of AFI’s online presence has given us new purpose that we will channel into making AFI News HQ the best that it can be. Our heads are spinning with ideas, and we are so very excited for the future.

Through our bleeding we are one,
-The AFI News HQ Team

FasterLouder.com Interviews Davey

FasterLounder.com, an Australian music magazine, recently interviewed Davey in preparation for the Soundwave Festival shows that AFI will be performing soon. In the interview, Davey spoke about playing old songs live, fans dedication to the band, and track pants. Regarding the band playing old songs live, Davey said:

“I don’t cringe when I hear it, I cringe when I have to play it,” the frontman muses. “I’m certainly not embarrassed of our old stuff, and I’m proud of what we’ve done. Everything from our past went into creating who we are now, and without that past we’d be a completely different band. That said, I definitely cringe if we play them now. I have no interest in playing the majority of those old songs, if only for the fact we played them for five, 10, almost 20 years, amongst many other reasons.”

Live Post: AFI’s Live Chat on Facebook

Tonight’s the night! AFI is holding a live chat via Livestream tonight at 4pm PST/7pm EST. You can watch the stream and chat with other fans while the band answers selected questions via Facebook, AFireInside.net, Livestream, or right here on AFI News HQ!
We’ll be updating this post throughout the chat and afterwards we’ll post a summary and a video for those of you who can’t tune in. Here are some interesting things we’ve learned so far:

* In the Beautiful Thieves video, Davey wears a bag over his head. That is when Davey is “detained” by the thieves at the party.
* The “Making Of” the Beautiful Thieves music video is playing now. “Beautiful Thieves” was the first song written for Crash Love.
* AFI has never played in Ireland, and they may be coming back to New York City soon.
* “Smile” is a difficult song for Adam to play live. It was last attempted at the Phoenix Theater in 2001/2002.
* Davey removed his lip ring after a fight with a biker. Adam talked at some length about AFI News HQ. Thanks Adam!
* There is a full-length director’s cut of Beautiful Thieves that is about to play on the live chat. Update: that was apparently not a director’s cut. The video was identical.

You can find a video of this chat HERE on our affiliate site, AFIVids.com.
To download go HERE. Downloads courtesy of Mark of AFIVids.com!

New Blaqk Audio song: Ill Lit Ships

Live 105, a radio station in the Bay Area in California, has reportedly been playing a new Blaqk Audio song called “Ill Lit Ships.” According to this page on the station’s Web site, the song is playing in the 9pm time slot on Sundays. Be sure to let us know if you hear this song on Live 105.

Thanks to Kelly for pointing this out! This story was originally posted on BrightBlackHeaven.com. Start requesting the song by texting “Blaqk Audio-Ill Lit Ships” to 36105 or call 415-478-LIVE!

Update: Kelly has now given us this description of the song: “Some of the lyrics that were refrained enough for me to catch were ‘It’s your smile that hurts me’ and ‘You let them by [buy???] you.’ It sounded like good old Davey to me. Musically, I noticed that there was a lot of acoustic piano, or at least what sounded like acoustic piano. The eletronic beats were there as well, sort of slow-paced. I wish I could remember more. I guess we’ll hear it more in the future, though!”

Update 2: We have contacted Live105 and asked for information about the song. They replied saying: “Its brand new music from their forthcoming second album! due out this late summer most likely. Thanks for listening Mike!”

Update 3: Our reader Drew has e-mailed the DJ (Aaron) who initially played the song and he says that Ill Lit Ships will be played on Sunday, February 14 during Live 105′s “Soundcheck” segment, which airs from 7-10pm PST. To listen live, visit Live105.com.

Benjamin Grey from the band Scarlet Grey just tweeted this: Just finished singing crucial backing vocals… New Blaqk Audio is going to be special. XXX.

Details for Live Chat, Beautiful Thieves "Making Of"

On February 11 at 7:00 p.m. EST, AFI will be holding a live chat on their Facebook page powered by Livestream. The band is inviting fans to submit questions via the Facebook page. During the live chat, AFI will answer selected questions and talk with fans.

The “Making Of Beautiful Thieves” video will also be revealed on February 11. This is said to feature “never before seen performance and interview footage.”

Editor’s Note: Two days ago we reported about a live chat occurring at midnight on February 4. That was according to an e-mail blast sent out by VeronicaSawyer.com on February 3. The information in the blast was almost entirely false, as no live chat was held and the video was never featured on Myspace Music to our knowledge. The new information in this post is correct, because it comes from an official press release.

Also, the blast said that the band will be holding a live chat on their Facebook page at midnight UK time on February 4, and that questions can be submitted starting at 4pm UK time.

Las Vegas Review-Journal Posts Review of AFI Show

The Las Vegas Review Journal has posted a concert review of AFI’s show at House of Blues. The reviewer, Jason Bracelin, wrote:

“Live, AFI is all about expelling the anxiety and dislocation that populates their tunes in flashy bursts of energy, as if their aim is to simply burn through any self-doubt right along with a few hundred calories.

Havok leads the way, a nerve-ending incarnate, punching the air, swinging his mic like a lasso, leaping atop the drum riser, turning his angst into a physical fitness routine.”

Tristan Henry-Wilson Commissioned for AFI Poster

Tristan Henry-Wilson, a young and rising artist whose client list includes System Of A Down, Velvet Revolver, and From Autumn To Ashes, has been commissioned by AFI to draw an oil painting of the band, which will be sold as a poster. Note: this has not even been announced yet, so we are the first to bring you this news!
Henry-Wilson has contacted us asking for high-resolution photos of the band members to reference while he creates the painting. You can visit his website to view a sample of his artwork. This artist has drawn t-shirts for AFI in the past, during the Decemberunderground era.

2nd teaser from KLP Interview with AFI

James, one of our writers and also a DJ from Key Lime Pie Radio, has posted a second teaser clip from his interview with AFI. The full interview will air on February 8 between 3pm and 4pm EST. Listen live at WGDR.org.

In the clip, Davey is asked about the strangest thing somebody has told him on this tour. “I had someone, for the first time in the history of our band, tell me that one of our records facilitated their extra-marital activities… I didn’t get details.”

MTV Posts New Beautiful Thieves Sneak Peek

MTV posted a new “sneak peek” showing clips from different parts of the Beautiful Thieves music video, which is slated for released on February 4 and was leaked earlier today. The article also includes a quote from Davey, saying that the video “shows people being forced to be responsible for their actions, we implement that retribution, if you will.”

The article includes an exclusive picture as well.

Beautiful Thieves Music Video Leaked

The music video for Beautiful Thieves has leaked onto Last.fm and Youtube. The Youtube video was removed after about 90 minutes, and it has been reposted several times. A second preview aired this morning on MTV (description here) and the full video will officially premiere on February 4, 2010 at 6am EST on all MTV television networks and Websites.

PABLO’S UPDATE: The video is now down. It shows a story line and AFI performing. You get to see Adam staring at some dude with two girls with him, Jade sitting in a bar (lol) with some dude, Davey poisoning the whole party (and ruining it therefore) and Hunter being seduced by a girl at the pool. Davey does not die!

Although we appreciate the sharing-spirit of our dear readers, for legal and obvious reasons we will NOT be hosting/accepting video links. Please don’t request them here either. If you search hard enough you’ll find it somwhere else.

Pictures from Santa Cruz/Fresno, Review from AZ

Pete Geniella (from Brian in the comments we have learned that Pete is a longtime AFI photographer from the 90′s) has posted 20 great pictures from AFI’s show on January 28 in Santa Cruz, CA. To see the gallery, click here.

In more photography news, MiseryXChord has posted her shots from the January 27 Fresno, CA show here on Buzznet. She will post a gallery from Santa Cruz later today, and we’ll update this post at that time.

AZCentral.com has now posted their review of AFI’s January 30 show in Tempe, AZ. You can find it here.

“What really resonated throughout the night was their infectious energy. Rounded out by bassist Hunter Burgan and drummer Adam Carson, AFI kept fans moving with a fast-paced set, slowing down only once for the ballad-like track, “The Leaving Song.” Their delivery was both enthusiastic and riveting.”
