Orange County Register:
"The band erupted at the start, igniting with “Torch Song” (lead-off cut from Crash Love) and then blitzing into back-to-back smashes from Sing the Sorrow, “Girl’s Not Grey” and “The Leaving Song Pt. 2,” while a pair of older cuts –- the I-hate-you sentiment of “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing” and the Dramarama chunkiness of “The Days of the Phoenix” – retained punkish bite."
Spinning Platters:
"Some more highlights from the set included another new song, “Too Shy To Scream,” which despite the title, actually was a lot of fun. The song started out with a Bow Wow Wow-esque bit of tribal drumming, and then turned in to a great Social Distortion-inspired piece of psychobilly glory. They even pulled out a classic chestnut from the Berkeley Square days, the Very Proud Of Ya-era b-side, “Love Is A Many [Splendored] Thing.”"
Bow Wow Wow-esque?! XDDDDD WTF.
ReplyDeleteTheir set lost energy towards the end of the hour?? Disagree!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like whoever wrote the KROQ article has something against any band that got success after the turn of the century. He had something negative to say about everyone; AFI, Rise Against 30 seconds, Anberlin.
ReplyDeleteI completely and beyond wholeheartedly agree with everything the Spinning Platters reviewer wrote. Esp regarding 30STM and MOST ESP. Muse. Ugh, those are the exact same complaints I have of Muse during the concert and afterward as I was talking with friends.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't saying I disagreed with anything that was said I was just commenting on how negative the whole review seemed to be. I wasn't there so I really can't have an honest opinion. On a side note; can anyone verify the despair faction twitter account?
ReplyDeleteTrust me, 30STM and Muse deserved it. And nobody really got the crowd going that much. The problem was exactly what the reviewer said...too many genres under one roof.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with you on those two. The only reason 30STM gets exposure is because of their lead singer. And Muse might have deserved some credit for their earlier work, but what they put out now is garbage. Their new album is just a collection of tracks that all sound the same. They're so overrated.
ReplyDeleteEvery minute of Muse's 60 minute set sounded the same. I couldn't tell the difference between any of their songs really. And they had zero stage presence...I mean, half the time I couldn't even tell when a song ended.
